Rental housing is generating more and more revenue for the treasury

In the period from January to September 2025, income tax revenues from individuals renting out immovable property increased by 27.2 percent compared to the same period in 2024 and amounted to 77.2 million lei, Logos Press reported.

Rental housing is generating more and more revenue for the treasury

These are the data of the State Tax Service. The report of the State Tax Service notes that 27,080 lease agreements were registered for the first 10 months of 2025. Income tax revenues increased by 27.2%.

As a result of measures taken by the service on voluntary compliance with tax legislation and informing citizens, from January to October 2025, 1,549 individuals renting out immovable property were identified.

For the first time, the STS provides information on the amount of income tax receipts from individuals renting out real estate by individual regions. The lion’s share of contracts and taxes falls on the capital. In Chisinau, citizens registered 19,154 contracts and the amount of income tax amounted to 66.3 million lei. In Balti municipality, 1,816 contracts were concluded and the tax amounted to 2.7 million lei. Cahul municipality legalized 647 contracts and collected 1.3 million lei in taxes.

At the same time, 11 tax inspections were carried out in real estate agencies in Chisinau, as a result of which 45 individuals were found not to have registered rental contracts with the STS. In addition, 103 individuals, whose lease contracts had expired, renewed them.
