At the same time, the number of installed photovoltaic panels far exceeds other sources of renewable energy production. In July this year, their share amounted to 70%. This data is provided by the National Center for Sustainable Energy. This is followed by wind power generation (214.58 MW or 27%), hydropower (16.75 MW or 2%) and biogas production (7.16 MW or 1%).
According to the center, the development of this sector in Moldova has been actively stimulated by the state in recent years. It has set fixed tariffs for electricity produced, and is also introducing measures such as net metering and net invoicing. In addition, income earned by individuals who produce renewable energy has been exempt from income tax since this year.
Thanks to these state support mechanisms, more than 338 MW of production units have been launched. The number of producers who sell renewable energy on the open market is increasing. This is evidence of the profitability of investments, emphasize the specialists of the center.
According to the commitments undertaken, by 2030, the Moldovan authorities expect to increase to 30% the gross final consumption of electricity from renewable sources. To this end, the legal framework for the implementation of solutions for energy storage and its subsequent sale will be updated in the near future, in accordance with the price situation.
Recall that the project to install energy storage equipment has been suspended. It was supposed to be financed by USAID, but after the liquidation of this structure in the USA, the Moldovan authorities are forced to look for other sources of financing. This will make it possible to balance the energy system while increasing the share of renewable energy. This is necessary due to unstable weather conditions and is achieved either by quickly activating reserve capacities in case of shortages or by storing surplus energy.
