Remittances are declining

Personal remittances received by Moldovan residents in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to $411.32 million, decreasing by 5% compared to the same period of 2024.

Such information is given by the National Bank of Moldova in the balance of payments for the first 3 months of 2025. It is noted that this decrease was caused by a decrease in inflows from net remuneration of employees by $34.49 million (-20.6%) – from $167.57 million to $133.08 million. At the same time, received personal transfers increased by $8.34 million (+3.3%) – from $252.53 million to $260.87 million.

According to NBM data, at the same time, in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of 2024, transfers from the EU decreased by $7.35 million (-2.9%) – from $253.42 million to $246.07 million, accounting for 59.8% of the total volume. Transfers from CIS countries decreased by $27.56 mln (3.4 times) – from $38.82 mln to $11.26 mln, accounting for 2.7% of the total volume. And transfers from other non-EU and CIS countries increased by $13.06 million (+9.3%) – from $140.93 million to $153.99 million, accounting for 37.5% of the total volume of personal transfers.
