Reconstruction of the Chisinau bridge over the river Bîc is 77% complete

The reconstruction works of the bridge over the river Bîc and the railway crossing in Chisinau, which are part of the highway M1 "border with Romania - Leuseni - Chisinau - Dubasari - border with Ukraine" (II stage) are 77% completed, - reports Logos Press.

This project is of strategic importance for the road infrastructure of Chisinau mun. Chisinau. According to the State Administration of Roads, the works are carried out on the M1 section with a length of 800 m (93.650 – 94.450 km). On the road part, the realization of the project is about 82%. On the bridge and railroad crossing – about 77%, as they are complex objects. Their cost is about 38.4 million lei and 30 million lei, respectively.

The project envisages complete demolition of the existing bridge and capital construction of a new bridge over the river Bîc, 78.75 meters long, consisting of four spans. The width of the bridge is 14 m, which includes two traffic lanes, two safety lanes, a sidewalk on the left side and safety fences on both sides. The project also includes the demolition and reconstruction of a 60.7 m long railroad overpass.

In addition to the construction of access roads, work is also being carried out in the bed of the Byk River for 500 meters. It is being reinforced with concrete using a special technology. For this purpose, the river bed was temporarily shifted. Also, 450 m of new pressure sewerage network is being laid (under a separate tender). External sewerage networks for collecting rainwater from the roadway, treatment facilities for them and electric street lighting are to be constructed.

The State Road Administration notes that a number of obstacles have been encountered during the implementation of this project, which have necessitated an extension of the project timeline. The main reasons include issuance of the construction permit with a delay of three and a half months; resolution of land ownership issues; and obtaining permits for tree cutting (about two months).

In addition, work on the bridge over the Bîc River was complicated by the proximity of a high-voltage line (110 kV power line), which required the relocation of electrical cables. After demolition of the existing foundation at the railroad crossing, design changes and additional technical solutions were required.

The initial cost of the project was 174.8 million lei. However, after the modifications and additional works, it increased to 184 million lei. At present, the works amounting to 138 million lei have been carried out. The need to revise the project arose in the course of its implementation. These works could not have been defined at the initial design stage.
