According to Moldovan oilseed market operators, there is no active demand for sunflower on the part of exporters at the moment. The main buyers of sunflower in July are local oil mills, which purchase small volumes of raw materials.
It is curious that on the domestic market of Moldova the prices for last year’s sunflower are almost equal to the prices for rape of the new harvest. Although usually sunflower is more expensive throughout the season.
Igor Tagadiuk, chairman of the CÎ Agrostoc business cooperative, believes that the current situation can be interpreted “not as a decrease in sunflower prices, but as an increase in rapeseed prices. Despite the high 2025 rapeseed harvest in many European countries, prices for this oilseed are still high. And, contrary to forecasts, they are not going down. Support for exchange futures for rapeseed in August-September is still provided by external factors. In particular, unstable and still high oil prices, as well as their little predictable change in the context of imposed and potential sanctions against Russia.
The development of the situation in the sunflower market is also poorly analyzed so far. As Yuri Rizha, an expert in agro-marketing, notes in this regard, at the moment there are multidirectional market signals. Thus, in Ukraine, the sunflower harvest is projected to decrease by 3% to 13.6 million tons, while in Russia and Kazakhstan – an increase in its production by 8% to 56 million tons. In Moldova, after heavy rains on July 18-19, the condition of sunflower plantations improved. In general, in the Black Sea region, the marketable resource of sunflower in the new marketing season is likely to be no lower than last season.
In Romania (port Galati) current price for sunflower is about $530/t (expenses for logistics and transportation of goods to this port from RM – $45-50/t). Port traders assume that from the beginning of August “demand price” for sunflower of new harvest will be in the range of $440-450/t.
