Moldovan carriers were informed about this by the Moldovan Embassy in Bulgaria. Protests have been announced at the border points of Deve Bair, Delchevo, Novo Selo, Doiran, Bogoroditsa, Mejitlia, Kyafasan, Blace and Blato. They may last up to seven days, with the possibility of early termination if the reasons for which the action was organized are overcome.

In this regard, the movement of goods vehicles will be restricted both on entry and exit, except for the transportation of medicines, live animals and cargoes of special security importance.

At the same time, the movement of passenger vehicles and cars will be unimpeded at all checkpoints. However, Moldovan citizens are advised by the representatives of the Embassy of Moldova in Bulgaria to avoid these areas if possible, or to clarify information on traffic conditions and follow the instructions of local authorities.

The actions come as part of a wider wave of protests by transporters from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of North Macedonia, which have led to the blocking of a number of border crossings for the movement of goods to and from the European Union.

As Radio Bulgaria notes, the protesters are demanding a change in the rules limiting drivers’ stay in the EU to 90 days within 6 months.

Moldovan citizens who find themselves in a difficult situation on the territory of Northern Macedonia can contact the emergency phone number of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Sofia at +359 877 819 314.
