The Government of the Republic of Moldova today approved the donation of several flood control dams to the State Institution National Administration “Apele Moldovei”. Previously, these assets belonged to state irrigation enterprises that were insolvent or inactive.
The measure is aimed at ensuring unified and efficient management of the hydro-technical protection infrastructure in order to prevent major flood risks in the coastal zones of the Dniester and Prut rivers. At the same time, the transfer of the dams under the control of Apele Moldovei will create prerequisites for the rehabilitation and modernization of the flood protection system at the national level.
“This solution will ensure a unified management of these vital structures for the protection of settlements and agricultural lands.Atthe same time, the project also includes the updating of the state’s public asset lists in line with the reality on the ground and the latest cadastral works carried out during the large-scale delimitation process,” Roman Cojuhar, director general of the State Property Agency, said at the government meeting.
He noted that in this way it will be possible to contribute to the gradual rehabilitation of the national hydraulic infrastructure, ensuring a fair and transparent management of these assets.
