According to acting Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, these data show a significant strengthening of the work of the state authorities in the fight against corruption and criminal financing.

“The Ministry of Justice, together with other institutions, has established a clear confiscation mechanism, identifying responsible persons and procedures, strengthening the role of the Agency for the Recovery of Criminal Assets (ARBI) and the State Tax Service in the execution of confiscation and compensation decisions. ARBI received a number of additional powers to strengthen international cooperation in order to identify property located outside the country,” Mihailov-Moraru said at the final press conference.

Mechanisms for early sale of confiscated property and the possibility of confiscation from final beneficiaries or third parties have been introduced. A law on the use of criminal property for social and public purposes has also been developed.

As previously reported by Logos Press, the Parliament voted in the first reading in favor of the bill, which establishes the procedure for the use of assets and funds confiscated by the state. The law provides for two main directions: social use, which implies direct redistribution of resources for projects with a direct impact on people and communities, and use in the public interest, aimed at strengthening state capabilities, modernizing infrastructure and financing strategic programs. Among the priorities are defense, public order, national security and combating crime.

Summarizing the results of her work as Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said that in general, 65% of the justice reform measures have been implemented, while 23% are at an advanced stage of implementation or at the stage of initiation.
