According to Ion Dodon, General Director of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), the authorities support the development of both the public and private sector, “so that there is a kind of competition between them.”
“But what we should recognize as good in the private sector is, first of all, hotel conditions and less bureaucracy. Working with public money requires a certain amount of bureaucracy, that is, following the route of documents, directions. This is not the case in private institutions – there, if you have money, you come, pay and receive medical service,” Dodon told the channel Realitatea.
He also commented on the fact that many medical workers combine work in public and private clinics: “This is not necessarily related to the quality of services, but rather to the desire of the employees to earn additional income to support their families”.
Raising the salaries of health workers remains an urgent task for the institution.
“To increase salaries in the public sector by 10% for institutions contracted by the CNMC and under the compulsory health insurance system would require approximately MDL 1.8 billion. We are striving to raise salaries and will make efforts to do so,” Dodon noted.
He emphasized that in 2026, the NCMS will invest more than 240 million lei in five strongest republican institutions: the Institute of Cardiology, the Institute of Emergency Medical Care, the Onco-Institute, the Institute of Mother and Child and the Republican Clinical Hospital. According to Dodon, “the strategic value of these institutions for the health of the nation is beyond doubt.”
