According to Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilice, at present, new applications for financing are no longer being processed, but only the state guarantees component is being considered in the usual way.
“We are reviewing this program together with our colleagues in order to understand in what form it can be updated until the moment when it will be possible to additionally replenish the financing or to find another implementation formula. All applications submitted to date and already approved for funding will be funded. The rest are on hold. In parallel, we are working on updating the program and will define the parameters of intervention – on rates, guarantees and other conditions – to ensure the most effective use of public funds and give young families better access to the program,” the minister said.
Radu Marian, chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance, said that the program will be changed conceptually – so that it “does not put pressure on the market.”
“As we have already stated in the PAS election program, as well as in a number of public statements, we intend to change the way we support citizens when buying their first home. The mechanism needs to be improved. We need to move from an instrument that stimulates demand and puts pressure on the market to a program that stimulates supply – through new construction and more affordable housing in partnership with bona fide private developers.”
The authorities are working on a new concept and promise to present it soon.
