The Moldovan delegation will include Deputy Speaker Doina Gherman, head of the national delegation Ion Groza, as well as MPs Veronica Rosca (PAS), Igor Dodon (PSRM) and Renato Usatii (Our Party).

Separately, Moldovan President Maia Sandu will come to Strasbourg. On Tuesday, January 27, she will speak at the PACE plenary session and will answer the deputies’ questions. On the same day, the head of state will hold meetings with the leadership of the PACE, the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission and the European Court of Human Rights. In addition, Maya Sandu will take part in a Holocaust remembrance ceremony.

As Moldova is currently chairing the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi will present a traditional message on this occasion. Earlier, Popşoi stressed the country’s commitment to the organization’s fundamental values – democracy, human rights and the rule of law, declaring readiness for unity and democratic sustainability in challenging times.

Six topics have been urgently proposed for discussion at the PACE winter session: “Threats to international order: the case of Greenland”; “The US administration’s actions against Venezuela and threats to other Latin American countries and Greenland/Denmark”; “Preserving the integrity of the European Convention on Human Rights system”; “Ensuring accountability, humanitarian protection and respect for international law in Gaza and the West Bank after the ceasefire”; “The 65th anniversary of the European Social Charter”; “Ensuring the protection of the international justice system”; “Ensuring the rule of law in Gaza and the West Bank after the ceasefire”; “The protection of the international legal system”; and “Ensuring the rule of law in Gaza and the West Bank after the ceasefire”.

Other debates at the PACE Winter Session will focus on the war in Ukraine, parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s compliance with commitments, and the post-monitoring dialog with North Macedonia.

It should be noted that Moldova’s chairmanship coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of its membership in the Council of Europe. The chairmanship started on November 14, 2025 and will last until May 15, 2026.
