As writes Bloomberg with reference to the analytical company Expana Markets, the average cost of a pound of pistachios (454 g) is $4.57.

The last time such prices for these nuts were in May 2018. Over the past two years, they have increased by a third.

Iran is the world’s second largest supplier of pistachios after the United States. At the same time, it accounts for a third of the world export volume of this product.

Problems in the world market arose back in 2025, when the pistachio harvest in Iran turned out to be lower than expected. Also earlier this year, Iranians were unable to export nuts due to blocked communications amid protests. According to Expana Markets analyst Nick Moss, pistachio prices are sensitive to crises in the Middle East given its role as a major supplier, transit hub and consumer.

The cost of these nuts has also been affected by the success of Dubai chocolate, which uses pistachios for filling. At the same time, confectioners around the world have started to use them more actively as an additive to their products.
