“People of the Book” at the Jewish Cultural Festival

The festival "European Days of Jewish Culture" is taking place in Chisinau and Balti, with the theme "People of the Book," Logos Press reports.

“People of the Book” at the Jewish Cultural Festival

It is held for the second consecutive year. These days feature a series of events, such as exhibitions organized by Moldovan artists of Jewish origin, musical performances, theatrical performances, film screenings and conferences. They aim to promote intercultural dialog by offering opportunities for different communities to meet.

For example, today, September 4, Artcor is hosting the Gesher Cultural and Educational Forum until late in the evening, bringing together distinguished lecturers from Moldova, Europe and Israel.

The lectures are given by Victor Borshevich – professor, doctor of habilitate physical and mathematical sciences, diplomat and public figure. He is known as a scientist and publicist, author of more than 200 works on cybernetics, artificial intelligence, history and culture.

Alex Osmolovsky is a filmmaker who makes movies for Netflix and whose short films have been recognized and awarded at international festivals. He has worked with major television and advertising companies.

Mark Kovnatsky is one of the world’s leading klezmer violinists, composer, teacher and member of prestigious international ensembles. He has performed on major stages in Europe, the USA and Asia.

The forum will be followed by an open-air concert of klezmer music and a gastronomic event. A pleasant bonus of participation in the event will be the drawing of tickets to the soccer match Moldova-Israel, which will be held on September 5 at the stadium “Zimbru”.

Also on September 4, the National Theater named after V. Alexandri in Balti will host the performance “Life, Word and Fate” by Nathan Alterman. Israeli poet, playwright, journalist and translator Natan Alterman was awarded the Israeli State Prize for Literature in 1968.

And on September 5, an exhibition dedicated to Jerusalem will open at the Agency for Interethnic Relations in Chisinau.

The festival also provides a platform to explore and share the Jewish community’s contribution to Moldovan society, covering aspects of its past and present, as well as visions for the future.
