The head of the commission for legal appointments and immunity, Veronica Rosca, who presented the draft law, said that the date of the elections was set in full compliance with the provisions of the Moldovan Constitution, the Electoral Code and the parliamentary regulations. She emphasized that the election date is set no later than three months after the expiry of the term of office of the current parliament.
According to the legislation in force, the Moldovan parliament is elected for a four-year term, and the next elections should be held in strict compliance with the established timeframe.
The current legislature was elected in early elections on July 11, 2021. Three political forces formed the legislature: the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), which won a qualified majority, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, and the Shor Party, which had not yet been banned.
Speaking about the upcoming vote to determine the new composition of the parliament Speaker Igor Grosu emphasized that the upcoming elections will be crucial for the future of the country. “Either we will destroy everything we have achieved on the European path of modernization and block any chance of joining the European Union, or we will move forward on the path of development and peace,” he said.
