The corresponding decree was signed by the Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu. According to the document, the date and agenda of the first plenary session this year will be approved by the Parliament’s Permanent Bureau, in which the ruling PAS party holds a majority (seven deputies).
According to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the legislative body holds two regular sessions a year. The spring session begins in February and cannot last longer than the end of July. The fall session begins in September and may not last beyond the end of December. However, in case of special need, Parliament is convened for extraordinary or special sessions. The last time this happened was in August 2025, due to the expiration of the mandates of the Constitutional Court judges. The MPs gathered to swear in the newly appointed members of the CC.
Last year the Parliament held 9 plenary sittings, considered 107 projects and held 70 meetings of standing committees. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu characterized the results positively: “In 2025, we stood the test and defended our country, because we worked together and proved to ourselves, first of all, that we are strong, that we have determination and that Moldova deserves to be part of the big European family. If 2025 was a year of resistance, I want 2026 to be a year of consolidation and development”.
Also in 2025, Parliament received 4,400 petitions and oral appeals from individuals and legal entities. The complaints mainly concerned violations of the right to free access to justice, the right to security and personal dignity, as well as the right to health care and social protection.
It should be recalled that six parliamentary factions were formed in the XIIth Parliament: PAS (55 deputies), PSRM (17 deputies), PCRM (8 deputies), Alternativa (8 deputies), Our Party (6 deputies) and Democrația Acasă (6 deputies). In addition, one deputy is not a member of any of the six parliamentary factions and is listed as independent.
