
The event coincides with the beginning of Moldova’s chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which is considered the executive body of the PACE. The chairmanship of this body is held by the member states in turn, according to the alphabetical order, for a period of six months. Moldova will assume the chairmanship on November 14, 2025.
The Standing Committee of the Assembly traditionally meets in the capital of the country holding the chairmanship.
According to the PACE press release, there was a request to hold a debate during the session on “Mobilization of citizens in defence of human rights and democracy: recent developments in Latvia”.
The agenda also includes debates on the outcome of the work of PACE observers of the recent parliamentary elections in Moldova, as well as on preventing and combating gender discrimination in the health care sector.
Parliamentarians will also discuss three reports on the Assembly’s activities, including the management of conflicts of interest in the Assembly and the increased participation of members in its work, as well as amendments to various provisions of its Rules of Procedure.
The meeting will conclude with a parliamentary roundtable, co-organized with the Women@PACE group, on “Violence against women and the role of parliaments and parliamentarians in the implementation of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention”.
