In the port of Giurgiulesti food wheat is estimated at 3100-3200 lei/t, in elevators in the north of the country – 2700-2800 lei/t. The average price for feed wheat is lower by about 100 lei/t. Barley costs 2800-3000 lei/t in the port, 2650-2800 lei/t in the center of the country, 2500-2700 lei/t in the northern regions.
Rapeseed harvesting has already started in the south of Moldova, and the first reports from the fields point to a generous harvest. So far, there is much evidence in favor of grain traders’ forecast that “rapeseed will become the main field crop of the first group in the region”. Starting prices for this oilseed crop of the new harvest fluctuate between 8300-8500 lei/ton in Giurgiulesti port, gradually decreasing towards the center of the country to 8000-8100 lei/ton.
Grain market operators believe that “a window of opportunity” will open for Moldovan traders on the European market. Moreover, even if the forecast of the European Commission for high (18.8 million tons) European rape harvest turns out to be correct. Although there are signs that the official estimate of rapeseed harvest in the EU is not yet confirmed by real “signals from the fields” in those countries where the harvesting campaign has already started.
