Thus, if at the beginning of last month the price for sunflower of crop-2024 on the Moldovan market averaged 8.5 lei/kg (including VAT), and the demand for this raw material on the part of processors and traders was relatively small, by the end of August the situation changed significantly. Last week, according to the analytical review of agro-marketing expert Iurie Rizhi, the “demand price” for Moldovan sunflower (both last year’s and new harvest) fluctuated within 9.60-11.26 lei/kg ($580-677/t). The wide price range was due to the quantity, quality and terms of delivery of goods (including or excluding VAT).
Also, the sunflower price traditionally depends on the region of delivery: in the north the goods are cheaper, in the south – more expensive. However, the price difference in the regional context is decreasing, currently it is no more than 0.15-0.32 lei/kg. The purchase price (including VAT) in both northern and southern regions of Moldova is confidently above 10 lei/kg.
Apparently, the determining role in the process of “equalization of prices” for oilseed raw materials between northern and southern regions of RM was played by the fact that the largest operator of oil and fat industry of the country Floarea Soarelui SA (Balti) in the current season resumed its work after a long technical downtime. The company is currently buying both rapeseed and sunflower for processing.
That is, in the north the role of catalyst for the growth of prices for oilseed raw materials began to be played again by processing. In the south, the export of sunflower and rapeseed still plays this role.
