The transferred material includes 60 newspaper titles – approximately 1,040 copies. The documents cover the period from 1854 to 2010 and represent an important source for studying the political, social and cultural history of the republic.

According to the terms of cooperation, the transferred publications will be digitized within the next three months using high-quality scanning technology. Once completed, the digital versions will be made available on the Arcanum platform, headquartered in Budapest. They will also be available in the reading room of the central office of the National Archives Agency, where the full collection of Arcanum’s newspaper database is available free of charge.

This database contains about 92 million pages, of which about 23 million are in Romanian, including materials from the period of Bessarabia in the interwar period, as well as publications of the Moldavian SSR, including in Cyrillic script.

The digitalization project will significantly simplify the work of researchers and archivists, as well as ensure the long-term preservation of unique historical sources in digital format.

Arcanum Newspapers is the largest and constantly expanding digital database of periodicals in Eastern Europe, which contains domestic scientific and specialized journals, encyclopedias, weekly and daily newspapers.
