Earlier, the Moldovan side announced the size of new increased euro quotas for exports of a group of agricultural products. In particular, for the current year (and for the following years) duty-free quotas for deliveries from Moldova to the EU will be: plum – 61 thousand tons, apple – 50 thousand tons, table grapes – 40 thousand tons, cherries – 4.5 thousand tons. In addition, supplies of garlic, tomatoes and grape juice to the EU will be fully liberalized.
The decision to expand the access of these products to the European market was adopted by the EU Council and the EU-Moldova Association Committee on September 19. The decision will come into force 15 days later.
It is worth mentioning that in July 2022, the EU authorities introduced unilateral measures to liberalize trade as a gesture of support for Ukraine and Moldova. In particular, duties were canceled on a number of Moldovan agro-food products, the export of which to the European market had been quoted before. These benefits expired on July 24, 2025. From this date, the previous quotas for Moldovan fruit supplies, which were in force until 2022, were activated. In particular, duty-free export of apples from Moldova to the European market was limited to 40 thousand tons, table grapes – 20 thousand tons, plums – 15 thousand tons, cherries – 1.5 thousand tons.
As Logos Press reported, from the end of July to mid-September of this year, Moldovan trading companies managed to choose the euro quota for duty-free export of plums in full. Consequently, until October 4, supplies of plums from Moldova to the European market are subject to customs duty (12%).
However, taking into account the newly opened opportunities, the potential size of plum supplies to the European Union in preferential regime until the end of the year may amount to 76 thousand tons.
