New medicines to Moldova come mainly from the EU

In 2025, every third medicine authorized in Moldova came from European Union countries, Logos Press reported.

According to the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, in 2025, 35.4% of medicines authorized in the Republic of Moldova were imported from the EU, 13.2% from Turkey, 9.6% from Ukraine, and the remaining countries accounted for 30.2%. At the same time, 11.5% of medicines are produced in Moldova.

In total, according to the Agency’s report, 364 new medicines were authorized in the country in 2025, of which 65 under the accelerated and 29 under the simplified procedure.

An increase in clinical trials by 39.5% compared to 2024 was noted. A total of 170 trials were conducted last year, most of them in the fields of oncology (58), hepatology (16), immunology (15), neurology (9) and others.

Regarding drug safety, the Agency received 439 reports of suspected adverse reactions, lack of therapeutic effect and side effects after immunization.

Of the adverse reactions reported in 2025, more than half were severe. Thirty-six cases (the most) involved Ceftriaxone.

In 2025, the number of requests for safe disposal of medicines increased by about 31% compared to 2024. The main reasons are expiration date and withdrawal from the market.

In 2025, 4,547 drug import authorizations were issued, compared to 5,709 in 2024 and 7,203 in 2023.

The total number of pharmacies in Moldova reached in 2025 1.081 in urban areas and 719 in rural areas. At the same time, last year the dynamics was different: 1,091 in urban areas and 606 in rural areas.
