According to the government, the creation of a new BCP will reduce waiting time for citizens and facilitate faster crossing of the Moldovan-Romanian border. At the same time, it will improve the movement of goods by offering carriers an alternative route. Thus, lower transportation costs will be recorded, and in the long term, consumers will benefit from more affordable prices.
“The commissioning of the new crossing point will contribute to the development of cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the main goal of which is border security,” said Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nikitin.
The new border crossing point will start functioning after the completion of the construction of the cross-border bridge, which started on April 26 this year, and its commissioning is scheduled for next fall.
The bridge in Ungheni is part of the strategic project of the A8 Unirea highway, which will connect Târgu-Mureş – Iasi – Ungheni (Romania) with the Moldovan border. The bridge will be 261 meters long and will consist of two parallel bridges, each with two lanes in each direction and sidewalks. The investment comes from European funds and the project cost exceeds 30 million euros.
