“Tricolor” learned the opponents in the third group of Division C of the Nations League. They will face the national teams of Slovakia, Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands. Victory in this group will allow the national team of Moldova to qualify for Division B – the second in status.
The matches of the group round of the League of Nations will be held from September 24 to November 17, 2026. The exact dates and venues will be determined later. In case the Moldovan national team takes the second place, from March 25 to 30, 2027, it will play two knockout matches with the worst team of one of the groups of Division B.
In the current FIFA World Ranking, the Moldovan national team is ranked 158th among 210 participants. Slovakia is on the 44th position, Kazakhstan – on the 114th, Faroe Islands – on the 125th.
The Moldovan national team received the right to play in Division C of the Nations League after finishing first in the group tournament in Division D in the fall of 2024.
The UEFA Nations League is a biennial tournament among European national teams. The national teams are divided into four divisions according to their position in the FIFA rankings. The winners of the group tournaments in their divisions get an additional opportunity to qualify for the World Cup or European Championship. The current winner of the tournament is Portugal, who defeated Spain in a penalty shootout in 2025.
