Moldovan athletes set national records in several disciplines at the European Short Course Swimming Championships, held in Lublin (Poland) - Logos Press reports.

The best results were achieved by Dumitru Korotaş, who won two medals in the heats among athletes over 35 years old, he was the best among athletes over 35 years old in the 50m breaststroke (29.1 seconds), ahead of Maroš Horvat from Slovakia (29.24 seconds) and Filip Rovinski from Poland (29.75 seconds).

In the breaststroke, the Moldovan athlete won the silver medal (one minute and five seconds), losing the first place to Horvat (one minute and 3.36 seconds) and finishing a few milliseconds ahead of the Briton Sean Leahy.

Oleksandra Ablovacka set two national records in the integrated swimming event. She covered the 200 m distance in the qualifying heat in 2 min. 15.39 seconds. But this record was not enough to qualify for the semifinals. Nor in the 400m, which she covered in 4 min. 51.72 seconds.

Ivan Danko also set a national record among men in the men’s 200-meter medley. He overcame the distance in 2 min. 1.04 seconds, which is almost five seconds worse than the performance of Turkish swimmer Berke Sak, who qualified for the semifinals.

Two more national records were set in the mixed relay teams of two girls and two boys. In the 4x50m medley relay, Alexandra Ablovatska, Anastasia Basisto, Egor Kovalyov and Konstantin Malaki covered the distance in 1 minute, 48.03 seconds. 48.03 seconds.

Also, the Moldovan team, made up of Ablovatcaia, Basisto, Danco and Malacchi, showed a record time in the 4x50m freestyle mixed relay (39.31 seconds). But the national team was about eight seconds short of qualifying for the finals.

At the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Lublin, Moldova was represented by seven athletes – pupils of sports schools Nos. 8 and 11 and of the Olympic Reserve School in Tiraspol.
