Moldovan pensioners are “richer” than Ukrainian pensioners

As of April 1, 2025, the minimum retirement pension in RM increased to 3055 lei (155 euros), the average pension – to 4407 lei (224 euros). In Ukraine, as of April this year, the average pension amounted to 6341 UAH (135 euros), and the minimum pension – only 2361 UAH (66 euros).

In Romania, the average pension is about 540 euros, while the minimum pension is 230 euros. In Hungary, the ratio is 540/350. In Poland, the average pension is lower – 465 euros, and the minimum is higher – 430 euros. In Slovakia, local pensioners receive an average of 637 euros per month, and the minimum payments are about 350-400 euros.

These calculations, of course, do not take into account purchasing power parity. Prices for the majority of goods and essential products, as well as tariffs for public utilities in the same Ukraine are much lower than in Moldova. Therefore, it is possible to say that Moldovan pensioners are “richer” than Ukrainian pensioners only conditionally.
