Despite the results
The government’s decision to increase scholarships for athletes, effective January 1, 2026, applies to athletes aged 13 years and older who have demonstrated good results in representative international tournaments.
Special treatment is given to Olympians and Paralympians. They are entitled to payments regardless of their results, and victory is valued much more highly than in other tournaments.
Thus, the monthly stipend for the Olympic champion in 2026 is 87 thousand lei, while the monthly stipend for the world champion among adults is 69.6 thousand lei and for the European champion among adults – 52.2 thousand lei.
The state budget allocated 62.3 million lei for the payment of scholarships this year. This amount is almost twice as much as last year’s amount – about 32 million lei.
