Moldovan national team lost to Lithuania in a friendly match

The Moldovan national team suffered a 0:2 defeat in a friendly match with Lithuania, held at the Zimbru stadium in Chisinau, Logos Press reports.

The goals for the Moldovan national team were scored by Eustas Kasickas in the 33rd minute and Gvidas Gineitis in the 71st.

“There is no need to make a tragedy!”

Moldovan and Lithuanian footballers met for the ninth time. The Lithuanian national team won for the third time in a face-to-face encounter. Twice the matches ended in favor of the “tricolor”, and four times – in a draw.

At the post-match press conference, Moldovan national team head coach Lilian Popescu emphasized that “we should not make a tragedy” out of this defeat. “It’s sad that they scored and we didn’t. We should not forget that not all players of the national team are in optimal form now. The best players available to us play in the national team,” said the mentor of the coaching staff, mentioning several players who cannot help the team due to injuries.

Departure to Cyprus

The next match, which also has a friendly status, the Moldovan players will play on March 30 against the national team of Cyprus. The national team will fly to Nicosia, where the meeting will take place. Previously, the teams have met on the field twice. The first match ended in favor of Cyprus, while the second one was won by the Moldovan team. Both meetings were friendly.

Two more friendly matches will be held in the summer. with Bulgaria (June 5) и Armenia (June 9). The Moldovan national team is preparing for the group round of the division C of the Nations LeagueMoldova will compete for promotion with Slovakia, Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands.
