In the first rounds of the tournament, 17-year-old Moisei defeated Natalia Taseva from Bulgaria (3:0), Iliana Martinez from the USA (3:0) and Rana Nurieva from Azerbaijan (4:0). The duel with Vasiliki Karavanou (Greece) in the 1/4 finals ended in a draw (1:1), but the victory was awarded to the Moldovan representative at the expense of classification points awarded to her for higher than her opponent results at the previous competitions.
The semi-final fight with Spanish Graciela Eningo Asama ended with a 2:1 victory for Moses, and in the final the ward of Petr and Andrei Chiperi left no chance to Frenchwoman Thea Roussel (4:0). The bronze medal was won by Graciela Eningo Asama.
Previously, the best result in the sports career of Alexandra Moses was a bronze medal won by her in 2024 at the World Olympic Wrestling Championships among athletes under 17 years old.
The Moldovan women’s national beach wrestling team (U-17) took the fifth place among 22 countries in the team medal standings. The three leaders were the national teams of Greece, France and the USA. The men’s national team took seventh place among 23 countries. The best were juniors from Iran, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The World Youth Beach Wrestling Championships for athletes under 17 and under 20 years old were held in the resort town of Katerini (Greece). The national team of Moldova was represented by 17 wrestlers – two girls and 15 boys. The best result in the men’s competitions (U-17) was demonstrated by Vitalii Perciun, who took the fourth place in the weight category up to 90 kg.
Beach wrestling is a non-Olympic sport. Athletes in bathing suits wrestle in a circle filled with sand, seven meters in diameter. The bouts last three minutes. Beach wrestling is included in the program of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The International Wrestling Union is promoting the sport for inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.
