
An agreement on recognition and exchange of driving licenses will be signed between Latvia and Moldova during the working visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi to Riga on 16-19 May. The government approved its signing at its meeting on May 14. The document will enter into force 30 days after the last written notification is received through diplomatic channels.
According to the information note to the draft, this decision is justified by the presence of Moldovan citizens on the territory of Latvia. The recognition of driving licenses will contribute to the free movement of citizens of both states, increase road safety, reduce fraud and prevent violations of rules related to driving licenses.
Currently, four similar Agreements are already in force in Moldova and four more are in the process of entering into force. In particular, with France (signed in Paris, July 12, 2024), Greece (Athens, July 2, 2024), Israel (Tel Aviv, March 20, 2024), Albania (Chisinau, February 22, 2024. and Tirana on March 21, 2024), Spain (Chisinau, April 18, 2024), Lithuania (Vilnius, October 7, 2021), Turkey (Ankara, December 30, 2019), Italy (Rome, November 27, 2003).
