Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, within a visit to the USA, met representatives of the diaspora and Moldovan business people who successfully develop logistics companies in America and create new jobs back home.

Vasile Sorocean and his team run a business in Chicago, specializing in the development of industrial facilities and cargo transportation. Currently, his fleet consists of more than 50 trucks, and modern services for drivers have been developed.

Moldovan Mihai Dercaci owns more than 300 trucks, and Nikolay Corobca owns a transportation company with more than 200 trucks.

In order to be as competitive as possible, the entrepreneurs moved their call-center activities to Moldova due to the more favorable conditions that our country offers in this sector. They have opened offices in Chisinau and already provide dozens of jobs in their home country.

“I was pleased to hear that they are considering new investments in Moldova in the future. In recent years, we have taken important steps to create favorable conditions for investors: we have reduced bureaucracy through six legislative packages, digitalized public services (more than 75 per cent are available online), extended the regime of IT parks, and in just four years, we have more than 250 active startups that have attracted tens of millions of dollars in investments,” Grosu said.

The head of the legislative body noted that Moldovans living in Chicago form a cohesive, energetic community with a large number of young entrepreneurs who are enthusiastic and successful in realizing their personal “American dream”.

He noted that thanks to the active participation of the diaspora from Chicago, the authorities were able to open a consulate in the region.

In Plainfield, Illinois, Moldovan-born Nicolae Ciobanu recently opened a store where he sells smoked meats based on traditional Moldovan recipes of his own production: “jumere” (stew) and mitei for grilling.

In North Carolina, the speaker discussed with representatives of the diaspora the reduction of consular fees, the expansion of the consular network and the piloting of voting by mail.

Grosu presented the Meritul Civic Medal to Eleonora Sinigur, in charge of international relations at the North Carolina Secretary of State’s Department, for her contribution to the development and promotion of the partnership between Moldova and the USA.

On December 2-10, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu is on a working visit to the United States of America. On the agenda of the visit are meetings with members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, representatives of the State Department, the White House, as well as with the Moldovan diaspora.
