Moldovan and EU citizens equalized in rights

The draft law on free movement and residence on the territory of the Republic of Moldova of EU citizens and their family members was elaborated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova in order to harmonize the national legislation with the European norms.

Once approved by the Parliament, the law automatically guarantees EU citizens the right to live and work in Moldova under the same conditions as Moldovan citizens and without going through bureaucratic procedures.

They will only need to submit an application form for a residence permit – an official document confirming their legal status of residence on the territory of Moldova.

In the application form, they will have to declare on their own responsibility that they have a valid health insurance in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a job and means of maintenance or that they are enrolled in an accredited educational institution.

In addition to the application, they will have to provide a valid travel document, a certificate of no criminal record from their country of origin and a document proving that they own or use housing in Moldova.

The residence permit is issued by the General Inspectorate for Migration within three working days.
