This was reported by the expert of Europuls center Corneliu Cotet on the air of Moldova1 TV channel.
According to him, the Moldovan government has changed the legislation by revising the land use fee to reflect the real market value.
The annual rent, which was previously a symbolic $1,000 a year, has been increased to a minimum of 500,000 lei a year (about $29,000 at today’s exchange rate).
“The new rent will actually be on par with market rates – at least 25 times higher than the one set in 2004,” Corneliu Cotet said.
The expert believes that the transfer of the management of the ISPA to the Romanian operator “Administration of Constanta Sea Ports” S.A. should be seen as a strategic decision to remove land barriers and create a direct maritime corridor that will facilitate Moldova’s imports and exports.
Earlier, Romanian Senator Gheorghe Stefanacke said that the purchase of the Giurgiulesti port turns Galati into a strategic hub and Romania as a whole takes a decisive step towards becoming a logistics leader in Southeastern Europe.
