In particular, Moldova will contribute 10.68 million lei to the Council of Europe, 5.4 million lei to the United Nations, 4.9 million lei to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), 1 million lei each to the World Trade Organization and the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA).
This is stipulated by a draft government decision, prepared by the Finance Ministry.
“The fulfillment of Moldova’s financial commitments in international organizations strengthens the partnership relations between the member states and has a positive impact on their promotion in various fields,” the information note to the draft said. – Besides, it contributes to the promotion of the country’s image as a reliable partner, including the strengthening of priority policies in the international arena. As well as the status of a candidate country for EU membership”.
In 2026, the amount of contributions is 2.4 million lei or 4.4 percent more than originally planned for 2025 and 5.4 million lei or 10.4 percent more than the amount actually paid last year. The increase is explained by the increase in the amounts of membership fees in a number of international organizations, as well as by exchange rate fluctuations.
However, the number of international organizations decreased this year compared to 2025 due to the denunciation of Moldova’s membership in the Joint Consultative Group of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and the International Sugar Organization, as well as the advance financing of the commitments to IFAD, the information note to the draft also says. This allowed saving about 750.8 thousand lei.
