Moldova to host European Youth Football Championship for the first time

Moldova was honored by UEFA after the successful organization of the European Under-19 Futsal Championship. The final tournament with the participation of the best European futsal teams took place at Arena Chișinău at the end of September and beginning of October this year, and its organization was praised by European officials, coaches and athletes themselves.

The organization of the tournament guarantees the Moldovan national youth team (U-17) an appearance in it. Our players will face the seven best national teams of the continent, which in recent years include the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France and Portugal. The venue for the matches will be announced later. The UEFA does not disclose the budget for tournaments of this level.

At the same meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee it was decided that the European Championship (U-17) in 2028 will be held in Lithuania. Thus, the Baltic States will host the tournament three years in a row: in 2026 it will be held in Estonia and a year later – in Latvia.

The European Under-17 Championships have been held since 1982 and annually since 1984 (not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The reigning champion is the Portuguese national youth team (U-17). Spain has won the most trophies (nine), Portugal is second with seven trophies and Germany (four) rounds out the top three.
