The study notes that there are a number of factors that contribute to the development of startup potential in Moldova, including tax incentives. The authors note that Chisinau can become an entrepreneurial center for startups due to its low cost of living, convenient location between the EU and CIS, high quality of Internet, and multilingualism in the country. The development of an IT park is mentioned, residents of which can receive an IT visa, as well as a number of benefits.
The country has startups specializing in AgTech, InsureTech and WineTech. It is also increasing its visibility through events such as Startup Moldova Summit, which attracts the attention of international and local investors.
“The country must do its best not to lose many of its brightest minds in favor of countries offering more opportunities. Although it’s too early to talk about “unicorns” in Moldova, startups like Planable and Fagura are managing to scale. So Moldova has excellent prospects and more reforms seem to be on the way, as the country has stated its desire to join the EU,” the study said.
