Currently, heart transplantation is not performed in the country and the annual need is estimated at 20-25 patients with the possibility of increasing in the coming years.
Health Minister Emil Ceban stressed that the development of this program will become a national priority and requires reasonable investments, coordinated actions and strengthening of medical capacity. The ministry intends to create a national program in line with European standards, as well as to strengthen a specialized center with a team of heart transplant specialists capable of performing a minimum number of operations per year.
The plan aims to train surgeons, transplant coordinators and other specialists in international reference centers, as well as to expand international cooperation, including through bilateral and trilateral partnerships with leading medical institutions in Ukraine, Romania, EU and other countries.
In order to develop the medical system, memorandums of cooperation were also signed between the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital and the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The documents are aimed at cooperation in cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and transplantology, exchange of specialists, conducting joint research projects, as well as providing access to modern medical technologies and advanced educational programs.
