Moldovan rugby players within the group stage gained two victories – over Estonia (12:1) and Bulgaria (7:3), played a draw with Poland (5:5) and suffered a defeat in the match with the national team of Ukraine – 4:6. In the only group of the tournament the home team took the third place and got the right to play in the match for the bronze medals.
The rivals of our athletes were rugby players from Romania, who imposed the struggle, but lost with the score 4:5. In the final match the Polish women’s team also defeated Ukraine by one point (7:6). The final fifth place went to Bulgaria, which defeated Estonia 10:1.
A year earlier, the Moldovan women’s national team also won the third place after beating Hungary (6:1). The championship was celebrated then by Romanian rugby players who defeated their rivals from Ukraine with a score of 6:4.
This year six women’s beach rugby teams took part in the tournament. The matches were held at the arena in La Izvor Park, where the men’s competition was also held.
As Logos Press reported earlier, the men’s European champions were the Portuguese, while the Moldovan rugby players won silver medals. Athletes from Lithuania became bronze medalists.
