Moldova was honored to host such a major tournament a year ago, when the European Judo Union (EJU) made the decision at the end of the European Youth Championships in Pila (Poland). The president of the Moldovan Judo Federation, Andrei Golban, thanked then for the choice in favor of our country and promised to hold the competition at the highest level. “This championship will provide children with additional motivation to practice judo,” emphasized a member of the Moldovan national team at the 1996 Olympic Games.

EJU President Laszlo Toth thanked the Moldovan partners for their efforts to organize the tournament. “It is a great pride for both the country and the EJU to host a tournament that fosters ties with a dedicated judo family. The Youth Championships serves as a vital bridge between youth and adult competitions and provides young talents the opportunity to prove themselves,” said the EJU head.

About 300 athletes from more than 40 European countries will compete for 14 sets of medals at the European Youth Championships (seven each for girls and boys). The budget allocated for the Championships has not been made public yet.
