The ratio of imports to exports last season amounted to 88% by 12%. According to the customs service, during the mentioned period, 7.4 thousand tons of peas were imported into the country, totaling 49.4 million lei, at an average price of 6.67 lei/kg. At the same time, only 0.96 thousand tons of peas were exported, worth 18.7 million lei, at an average price of 19.41 lei/kg.
As agro-marketing expert Iurie Rija notes, the very significant difference in the price of imported and exported peas is explained by the fact that the country imports them for food/feed purposes, while it exports them as a seed and/or specialty product with high added value.
It is also interesting that Moldova imports peas mainly from Switzerland, the UK and the UAE, while it exports to Romania, Ukraine and Hungary.
