Moldova has officially joined the European Union’s “Creative Europe” program with a budget of 2.44 billion euros.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov, from January 1, 2026, Moldovan organizations, artists and cultural professionals will have direct access to European funding under the same conditions as participants from the European Union countries.
“Projects in the fields of architecture, cultural heritage preservation, design, literature, music, dance and theater will be supported,” Cristina Gerasimov specified.
State Secretary of the Culture Ministry Andrei Chistol said that the participation in the programme opens for Moldova opportunities for European cultural cooperation, artistic mobility, international exchanges, translations of literary works and increasing the recognition of Moldovan authors. Besides, the country will be able to participate in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture.
Previously, Moldovan projects, such as the Cronograf International Documentary Film Festival and the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, have already received support within Creative Europe, which gave them international visibility.
It should be noted that Moldova will participate in the “Creative Europe” Committee as a non-voting observer. The country undertakes to establish a national office to coordinate participation in the program, support grant applications and interact with the European network.
Moldova’s financial commitments to participate in the program will amount to 10.18 million lei in 2026 and 10.28 million lei in 2027. At the same time, the country is temporarily exempted from making contributions due to exceptional circumstances related to the war in Ukraine.
As previously reported Logos Press, the agreement on Moldova’s accession to the Creative Europe program was signed on September 2, 2025, during the visit of European Commissioner Glenn Micallef to the country, after which it was approved by the government and ratified by the Parliament.
