This statement was made on April 8 by the director of the Agency for Interethnic Relations (ARI), Veaceslav Ryabchinschi, at the opening of the international conference “Promoting the implementation of Council of Europe standards on Roma integration in the Republic of Moldova”. The event was organized by ARI in partnership with the “Voice of Roma” coalition and the Council of Europe and was held within the framework of Moldova’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
At the same time, Veaceslav Riabcinschi emphasized that despite the progress made in recent years towards social inclusion, real challenges remain, especially with regard to access to education, social services and equal opportunities.
In this context, the need to strengthen public policies and cooperation between institutions, civil society and international partners was emphasized.
The Conference was held on International Roma Day, providing an appropriate platform for reflection, dialogue and renewed commitment to social inclusion.
The conference aimed at facilitating a practical exchange of views between authorities, civil society representatives and the Roma community on the implementation of national policies aimed at the integration of Roma, both at central and local levels. The participants also discussed the need to harmonize this policy with European standards in the context of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union.
