Samoil made it to the podium in the women’s wrestling competition in the 55 kg weight class, while Borsch took the podium in freestyle wrestling in the 92 kg category.
Victory over the Bulgarian in the fight for “bronze”
Michaela Samoil defeated Albina Rilla of Ukraine and Alexandra Voiculescu of Romania. In the semifinals, the 22-year-old Moldovan athlete lost to Gultakin Shirinova of Azerbaijan, but had a chance to fight for the bronze medal in the small final. In the duel with Nesrin Suleymanova from Bulgaria, Samoil won a confident victory with the score 10:0 and got on the podium.
Gerka Terek (Hungary) won the gold medal, silver medal – Shirinova. The winner of the second bronze medal was Tuba Demir from Turkey.
The right to the small final
Alexander Borsh lost in the first round to his opponent – Fatih Altunbas from Turkey. Despite this, he got the right to participate in the additional qualifying round. There he knocked out Grigorios Saridis of Turkey and advanced to the small final. In the decisive fight, the 20-year-old Moldovan wrestler left no chance to Christian Angyal from Hungary (11:1) and took the third place.
Ali Tsokayev, representing Azerbaijan, became the European champion in the category up to 92 kg, Altunbas won the silver medal. The second bronze medal went to Russian Mustafagadzhi Malachdibirov.
Three medals in the asset
The representatives of Moldova have won three medals so far. Earlier, freestyle wrestler Alexander Gaidarli, a native of ATU Gagauzia, became the European champion. He had no equal in the weight category up to 70 kg.
More than 400 athletes from almost 30 countries are playing for 30 sets of medals at the European Youth Championships.
