Before her, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited there a week ago.

The first point of Meloni’s tour was Saudi Arabia. In the coming days, she will travel to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, where, according to official Rome reports, she will negotiate on strengthening Italy’s energy security.

Meloni also intends to support the countries of the region against the backdrop of the ongoing Iranian attacks and discuss with them the deepening of strategic partnership.

According to a report by the Vienna Institute for Analytics (Austria) and the University of Delft (Netherlands), to which the cited by Euronews, Italy has suffered the most damage among EU countries as a result of the disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz blocked by Iran.

The stoppage of navigation through this crucial global route for the world’s oil supplies has led to a spike in energy prices and shortages. Rome has initiated the creation of a “humanitarian corridor” in the Strait under the auspices of the UN – primarily for critical supplies.

Earlier, Donald Trump urged European countries to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz, but was refused. French President Macron said that it was unrealistic to free the route by military force and that it was necessary to negotiate with Iran.
