Maxim Gaus

The voting took place within the framework of the extraordinary general meeting of the WTF Taekwondo Federation of Moldova after Igor Iuzefovici, who led the organization for 13 years, resigned on November 3. Initially, Veaceslav Dragoi and Valentin Conev also put up their candidacies, but then they withdrew from the vote in favor of Gaus. This move shows the consolidation of the federation around the newly elected president.

Maxim Gaus is a black belt, fifth dan and holds an international refereeing license. He has officiated para taekwondo bouts at the previous two Paralympic Games – Tokyo (2021) and Paris (2024). At the moment, Gaus is also the director of the sports specialized school No. 6 with a Taekwondo profile. It is not reported whether he intends to combine both positions in the future.

WTF is the organization overseeing the Olympic version of Taekwondo. The sport has been an Olympic sport since 2000, when it was officially included in the program of the Games in Sydney, Australia.
