In the first exercise – snatch – Marin Robu lifted the highest weight (173 kg) and received a small gold medal for winning this exercise. Germany’s Raphael Friedrich (171 kg) and Lukas Muller (159 kg) took 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
In the next event of the program – the jerk – Friedrich lifted a barbell weighing 205 kg and won the general classification. The Moldovan weightlifter conquered the bar with 3 kg less weight (202 kg). The third place in this exercise was taken by Lorenzo Tarquini from Italy (196 kg), which allowed him to take the final 3rd place.
Another representative of the national team of Moldova Tudor Bratu in the weight category up to 102 kg showed the third result in both snatch (176 kg) and jerk (210 kg). With a total weight of 386 kg he also won a big bronze medal. Evgeny Tikhontsov from Belarus, competing under a neutral flag, became the European champion with a total weight of 399 kg (181 kg + 218 kg). Silver medalist Marcos Luis Velasco from Spain lost to the winner by one kilogram in each exercise (180 kg + 217 kg) and took the second step of the podium with a total weight of 397 kg.
