He said the government has declared a state of high alert in the energy sector to strengthen monitoring of the situation and speed up coordination among agencies.
‘This regime is necessary in order to monitor the situation and introduce accelerated coordination between the departments dealing with these issues. The priority at the moment is the domestic market and the supply of petroleum products to the domestic market,’ Spatar said on TV 8.
The MP said that in the last two days, the import of oil products to Moldova has increased, but the demand has also increased. In his opinion, this is due to the fact that people have started buying fuel due to the rise in prices, which creates a short-term rush.
“Panic demand certainly exists, but we must realize that it can be short-term. If people fill tanks and jerry cans now, the demand may decrease later,” he said.
Spatar also emphasized that the current policy of setting a price ceiling has helped contain price increases.
“In other countries, for example in Italy and even in Romania, gasoline and diesel prices have increased much more than in Moldova,” the deputy said.
He added that the country has fuel reserves: gasoline – for about 20 days, diesel fuel – for about two weeks. In addition, supplies through the Giurgiulesti port and the Leuseni border point have increased.
At the same time, former Prime Minister, MP of the Alternative bloc Ion Chicu considers the situation problematic, especially for farmers. According to him, farmers complain about high wholesale prices for diesel fuel.
“The wholesale price of diesel is much higher than the retail price at gas stations, which is nonsense. This is because the importing companies have not had time to deliver fuel and what they are now bringing into the country is much more expensive than the prices set by ANRE,” Chicu said.
He expressed hope that the authorities will take measures to stabilize the market and prevent panic among farmers.
