Presidents Nicusor Dan of Romania and Maia Sandu of Moldova
This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu at a joint press conference with her Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan, who paid his first official visit to Chisinau as head of state. “The Prut should be a bridge, not an obstacle,” Sandu emphasized.
Energy, infrastructure and security issues were at the center of bilateral discussions during the meeting of the heads of state. Maia Sandu emphasized that in order to strengthen the sustainability of our societies, it is necessary to stimulate the economy through investments, job creation and improvement of citizens’ living conditions.
“Romania remains Moldova’s main investor and trade partner, and our economies are increasingly integrated,” the Moldovan head of state said. – About 1,700 Romanian companies operate in Moldova and more than 8,000 Moldovan companies work in Romania, creating a turnover of more than three billion euros and supporting more than 20,000 jobs.”
The Moldovan president said that the integration of the two countries’ economies is reflected in strategic infrastructure and energy projects. In particular, the construction of interconnecting power lines, as well as the interconnection of gas networks.
In addition, Maia Sandu said that Moldova is ready to sign a contract for the supply of electricity from the new reactors in Cernavoda, as soon as they are put into operation.
She also said that in the field of transport infrastructure, the Sculeni-Sculeni, Cahul-Oancea and Leuseni-Albita bridges are to be modernized by 2027. In addition, it is planned to build four new bridges across the Prut River, which will strengthen the physical connection between the two countries: Costesti-Stynca, Leova-Bumbeta, Leca-Falciu and Berboeni-Raducaneni.
“These projects mean investments in infrastructure, bringing the two countries closer together, improving living standards and strengthening a stable, prosperous and well connected region,” said Maia Sandu.
