Maia Sandu
According to the head of state, the regression of globalization and unstable geopolitical situation have serious consequences for the economy and international economic relations.
“It is quite clear that we no longer live in a world of stability, but rather in a world of uncertainty. We do not have time to come out of one crisis and immediately find ourselves in another. Every morning when we wake up, we anxiously read the news to find out what has happened in the world while we slept. This is the reality: events thousands of miles away can affect us, sometimes in dramatic ways. This is the new world we live in – a world of uncertainties and transformations of all kinds, and it looks like it will last for years, if not decades. It is obvious that the process of globalization, which contributed to the growth of prosperity in all countries and the development of economic ties between states of different continents, from which we all benefited, is now in regression,” Sandu said.
She characterized the current geopolitical situation as “really chaotic”, noting that it has a serious impact on economic ties and economic development. At the same time, the president emphasized that these changes bring both risks and opportunities.
According to the head of state, energy security plays an important role in strengthening economic sustainability.
“We should reduce the vulnerability to energy crises and increase Moldova’s energy independence,” the president said, noting that this requires the efforts of both public and private sectors.
Sandu also stressed the need to continue the judicial reform amid the problems pointed out by the business community and the importance of building an efficient state able to meet the needs of the economy and society.
Keeping up with the train
The President also mentioned the opportunities offered by the European integration, including through the Growth Plan, stressing the need for close cooperation between the authorities and the private sector.
“It is very important not only to disburse funds, but also to demonstrate results,” she emphasized.
In addition, Sandu emphasized the role of technology in enhancing the country’s competitiveness:
“The challenges are great, but our responsibility to rise to their level is equally great. These transformations also bring opportunities. I am convinced that those who manage to master technologies, including artificial intelligence, and use these tools to improve their competitiveness will determine whether Moldova will be able to take its rightful place among the prosperous countries in the new world order or will remain behind the train”.
