The statements were made in an interview with the Explicativ platform on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

“We must be aware that even if the peace agreement is a good one for Ukraine, Russia will not give up its efforts to intervene, influence, and try to take control of the states in the region and beyond. Because what Russia is doing in other countries is trying to influence elections so that pro-Russian politicians come to power, because when pro-Russian politicians are in power in different countries, it is easier for Russia to promote its interests. That is why we must prepare ourselves for the fact that this cognitive war and, in general, hybrid warfare will be a long-term problem,” Sandu said.

In this regard, she proposes the launch of a “coalition of the willing” on this issue:

“And maybe we should form a ‘coalition of the willing’ on how to resist the hybrid attacks of the Russian Federation, because they will continue in any case,” Maia Sandu said.

When asked if this topic was discussed in Munich, Sandu said: “We are discussing it. Informally, that is.”

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, continued discussions in Munich on the country’s security, society’s resilience to external threats, and the European path. On the sidelines of the conference, the head of state held bilateral meetings with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and the President of Montenegro, Jacov Milatović.
