According to the published register of admissible gifts, Moldovan President Maia Sandu received 51 gifts worth 97,390 lei in the first 9 months of 2025. The most expensive one is valued at 9,950 lei. It is a Pix rollerball pen made of brass with gilding, from the “Élysée” collection (S.T. Dupont, France), in the original package with an international guarantee certificate. The gift was presented by the President of France Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Moldova on the occasion of the Independence Day. The pen was transferred to the ownership of the Office of the President of Moldova.
The Parliament released a list of gifts worth 19,830 lei in 9 months. Among the most expensive were a decorative plate worth 1,957 lei, presented to Deputy Speaker Doina Gherman, and a painting worth 1,949 lei, presented to Speaker Igor Grosu by Romanian President Nicusor Dan. The gifts were handed over to the Parliament’s museum.
The State Chancellery of the Government reported receiving gifts worth 9,050 lei in the first nine months of last year. The most expensive gift worth 2,500 lei was the painting “Bucurie Vintage”, presented to Prime Minister Dorin Recean by Raisa Ambros, an artist of Moldovan origin living in the United Kingdom. The painting was transferred to the State Chancellery.
Alexander Stoianoglo, an MP of the Alternative bloc and former prosecutor-general, came up with an initiative to sell state gifts at public auctions and to channel the proceeds to the budget.
As an example, he cited the practice of Italy, where, by the decision of Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni, state gifts were not transferred to museum funds, but were put up for auction. This allowed to replenish the budget by about 800 thousand euros.
“In Italy, even gifts work for the budget. In Moldova, so far, they publish a list and report on transparency,” Stoianoglo emphasized.
